Star Wars And Lion King Actor James Earl Jones Dies At 93

James Earl Jones, the legendary performer who gave Darth Vader his iconic voice, has passed away. Jones was 93 years old, and his career as an actor spanned seven decades. A cause of death hasn’t yet been publicly released, but Jones died at his home in Dutchess County, New York.

Jones was born on January 17, 1931 in Arkabutla, Mississippi. He was considered to be one of the greatest actors of his era, and he was also one of the few who have ever won the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). During his long career, Jones earned two Emmy awards, a Grammy, and three Tony Awards as well as an honorary Academy Award in 2012.

Prior to breaking into Hollywood, Jones made his Broadway debut in 1957 and established himself as a Shakespearean actor. He won his first Tony Award for The Great White Hope in 1968 before reprising his role in the film adaptation two years later. But his first movie was Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove in 1964, and he parlayed that part into numerous roles over the decades including leading roles in Conan the Barbarian, Coming to America, Field of Dreams, The Hunt for Red October, The Sandlot, and both versions of The Lion King.

Snag Hori's Excellent D-Pad Switch Controller For 15 Bucks

The Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons offer a lot of flexibility in how the system can be played, letting you use them while the switch is docked, in handheld mode, or even propped up on a flat surface. They can also function as a pair of controllers in local multiplayer. But since the Switch launched, there’s been one Joy-Con feature that has been a sore point for players, and no, we’re not talking about drift. The Switch’s Joy-Con controller lack a traditional D-pad and instead offer four directional buttons on the left-hand Joy-Con where the D-pad would be.

For those who prefer the feel of a traditional D-pad, which feels like a must for playing some of the classic SNES games on Switch like Super Mario World and Super Metroid, Hori offers a line of D-pad Switch controllers that simply replace the left Joy-Con on your system. Though they’re available in a variety of designs, there’s a rare deal on one particular version right now at Amazon–you can snag the Black & Gold Pikachu design that’s black with yellow lightning bolts for $15 right now, down from $25. We first covered this deal earlier this week when the controller fell to $20, and now you can snag i…

Skull And Bones Gameplay Reveal Coming This Thursday, Bigger Ubisoft Forward Event Scheduled For September

Ubisoft has announced two more presentations for the year, which will begin with a Skull And Bones showcase on July 7 at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET and a Ubisoft Forward event in September.

For the Skull And Bones spotlight, Ubisoft explained on its blog that it will provide an in-depth look at the upcoming open-world multiplayer pirate game on its YouTube or Twitch. Set during the Golden Age of Piracy, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for Skull And Bones since it was first announced at E3 2017 and underwent numerous changes over the years. In April, a lengthy gameplay video emerged from a Skull And Bones technical test and the game has recently been rated by the ESRB, with one leaker claiming that it’ll be released in November.

For the September 10 event that kicks off at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET, Ubisoft says that fans can expect multiple game announcements. The company didn’t reveal more than that, but several of its in-development games are already public knowledge. The latest Nintendo Direct revealed more details on the next Mario + Rabbids game, a Splinter Cell remake is in the works, and it’s possible that the constantly delayed Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake could als…

The length of the subscription will be based on whichever subscription is longer. Since the service was announced, users have begun stacking their subscriptions in anticipation of them being converted to the new service.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Will Have A "Brand-New, Reworked" Soundtrack, Konami Says

Silent Hill 2 composer Akira Yamaoka has announced that the remake’s soundtrack will be a “brand-new, reworked” experience. Yamaoka revealed the news to GameSpot and various press outlets during a recent preview event for the upcoming psychological horror game. The longtime composer went on to say that, while he understands that the original soundtrack is “beloved,” he ultimately wanted to ensure that all players would have a “fresh experience.”

“I have reworked all the tracks. There are segments and bits and pieces of the original tracks that you can hear, but all of the tracks have been reworked from the ground up. I understand that the soundtrack is very much beloved, but ultimately I composed over nine hours worth of music and I’m still wondering how in the world we are going to fit all of that into a soundtrack.”

Though this news might disappoint fans of the critically acclaimed soundtrack, rest assured that–based on our time spent with the Silent Hill 2 remake and some additional comments given by Yamaoka–it seems as if the soundtrack will remain very familiar. The composer explained that he both referenced and sampled tracks from the original score while com…
